Criss Angel Believe
4/25/08 1 CommentCriss Angel is reaching beyond the grave to Harry Houdini, natch, for the name of his long-anticipated Cirque du Soleil show at the Luxor.
Previews of “Criss Angel Believe” begin Sept. 1 and the show officially opens Sept. 12. Pre-sale tickets went on sale today; tickets for the general public will go on sale sometime in May, according to John McCoy, spokesman for Cirque du Soleil.
Angel, the illusionist best know for his rock ‘n’ roll image and his TV show “Mindfreak,” dipped into the Houdini legend for the name. “Believe” is the code word Houdini uttered on his death bed for contacting him in the afterlife.
The statement released today hypes the show thusly: “Unlike traditional magic-themed shows, ‘Criss Angel Believe’ transcends any preconceived notion of what it means to be emotionally engaged by the arts of mysticism and illusion. Imagine a fantasy, an allegory, a highly theatrical tableau of mood, reverie and emotion set against a backdrop of dreamlike darkness and light.”
The show will sixth permanent Cirque de Soleil production on the Strip, joining “Mystere,” “O,” “Ka,” “Love” and “Zumanity.” An Elvis-themed show is planned for CityCenter.
